Drawing SMILES by Using Chemsketch

This past lecture, Madam Linda taught us on how to draw SMILES by using the application that we already used before, the Chemsketch. For your information SMILES stands for..

S: Simplified
M: Molecular
I: Input
L: Line
E: Entry
S: System

To learn more about what SMILES is all about, do click here.

And thus, these are the results that we managed to obtain:

That is all from us. Again, we thank our dearest Mdm Linda for all the knowledge that she had taught us. Assalamualaikum..

Experience with RasMol

In today's lecture, we are being taught on how to use RasMol, a software of which is used for molecular graphics visualization originally developed by Roger Sayle. This software reads in molecular coordinate files and interactively displays the molecule on the screen in a variety of representations and colour schemes. Click here to learn more about RasMol.

Our assignment is to download certain models of molecules from the PDB (Protein Database) website. Then, we are to edit those models and to paste it here in our blogspot.

These are the results that we manage to obtain:

Name of MoleculesEditing Details (Display, Colour)
Image of Molecules
CollagenaseBall & Stick, Temperature
SubtilisinStrands, Shapely
KexinSpacefill, Chain
Signal Peptidase
Backbone, Structure

That is all from today. Again, we deeply thank Madam Linda for teaching us on how to use this software. May this knowledge benefit us in our near future.

Experience with Chemsketch

Last week, we are given a wonderful opprtunity to try out an a software which is called "Skemsketch". Skemsketch is a chemically intelligent drawing interface that allows you to draw almost any chemical structure including organics, organometallics, polymers, and Markush structures. It is used to produce professional looking structures and diagrams for reports and publications.

To learn more about this software, click here.

By using this software, we are required to do these tasks:
- Drawing the Energy of Reaction Diagram
- Drawing Different Kinds of Orbitals
- Drawing Vacuum Distillation Apparatus
- Drawing a Two-chain DNA Strand
- Drawing Lipids and Micelles

Here are some results for each of these tasks:

We realized that by using this software, us science students can easily draw chemical structure that can be displayed in a digital form. We learned a lot from this software and we hope by learning the techniques to use this software will help us in our oncoming assignment.

We deeply thank our lecturer, Mdm Linda for guiding us in using this software.

Thank you and wassalam.
